Brian Weir - Head of Student Services

I am employed to work jointly for the College and with the Students’ Union – a rose between two thorns, you could say.
One half of my role is to manage the general student welfare provisions in College, everything from Counselling, Chaplaincy and Police Liaison to Personal Tutor Systems, Accommodation and Housing Advice. So, any problems with a landlord, your house, settling in, surviving financially or even just for a confidential chat please feel free to pop in.
The other side of my job is with the Students’ Union and includes commercial and day-to-day management, as well as helping to make sure your SU doesn’t break the law or run off with your SU grant. I am not allowed to tell the exec what to do, but I like to think I offer them sound support and guidance as they take your best interests forward. Likewise, I do not tell the college what your atonymous SU talks about.
The last five years have seen huge changes in the Students’ Union. Profits from the SU (and it's Limited Company Madsu Limited) have increased 1500% in the last five years. We run more events and clubs than ever before and the Summer Ball Production is bigger and better annually; we run the College Bar and an SU Shop and we continue to develop core provisions to make sure that during your time here you receive the support, facilities and understanding you deserve.
